Overview
Calypso
Cabaret, also known as Calypso
1988, is one of Bangkok’s
most iconic and long-running cabaret shows, established in 1988. Originally
held in a small theater on Sukhumvit Road, it has grown into a polished,
large-scale production now located at Asiatique The Riverfront,
a lively riverside night market and entertainment complex. The show features a
dazzling mix of song, dance, and impersonation,
performed by a talented cast of transgender performers (kathoey)
known for their charisma, glamour, and intricate costumes. Audiences are
treated to an hour-long performance that blends Western pop culture, Thai
traditions, comedy, and high-energy choreography. Unlike some nightlife
experiences, Calypso is considered family-friendly and culturally
respectful, making it a popular choice for tourists from around
the world. With its mix of entertainment and cultural expression, Calypso
Cabaret remains a unique and celebrated part of Bangkok’s night scene.
